RCB Stampede: Netizens Slam Police Chief Dayananda's Suspension; Karnataka Govt Faces Backlash

Bengaluru, Karnataka: Netizens are sharply reacting to the Karnataka government’s decision to suspend Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda in connection with the RCB parade stampede that claimed 11 lives and left many injured. During an emergency press conference held on late Thursday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah suspended Dayananda and four other police officers citing “dereliction” of duty.

However, the government’s decision to suspend police officials is receiving severe backlashes on social media and is sparking widespread public outrage. Along with netizens, opposition parties, and retired police commissioners have also rebuked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and accused the ruling government of making the top police officers a scapegoat to deflect its own failures.

Concerning B. Dayananda’s suspension, an X user wrote,” The suspension of B. Dayananda, IPS, is unacceptable. An upright, citizen-centric, and visionary officer is being made a scapegoat. This marks one of the darkest days in Karnataka’s history and exposes how politicians sacrifice honest officers to shield their own cowardice.”

Siddaramaiah‘s New Rulebook: Suspend the Honest, Shield the Guilty! We stand in complete solidarity with you, B. Dayananda Gowda sir,” another user Rashmi Albert remarked.

Similarly, another person wrote on X that instead of Dayananda, Shivakumar should resign, ” . . . B Dayananda has been suspended. He didn’t deserve a suspension. We the citizens should protest against the unjust decision of the Karnataka cabinet. We deserve better governance. If anything, DK Shivakumar should resign and go home.”

Former Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao remarked that the suspension of Bengaluru City Police Commissioner is the “darkest day in the History of Karnataka Police”.

“The prize for telling the Truth and he and his Team slogged the whole night to keep Bengaluru Safe. Everyone in Karnataka knows that it is the Uncontrollable Deputy Chief Minister who orchestrated the Death March is the main Culprit. No Chief Minister has become as Helpless, Cowardly, Nervous and Panicky. The Government has Blood on its Hands and Now has lost its Mind too. The Government is now in Disaster,” Rao said in the post.
