Muda Scam: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Wife Get Clean Shit From Lokayukta

Karnataka: The anti-corruption probe body, Lokayukta, on Wednesday gave a clean chit to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment case. Lokayukta, which investigates complaints against public servants in India, stated that it found no evidence against the chief minister, his wife, and other accused persons in the alleged scam.

The Lokayukta police, in a letter to activist Snehamayi Krishna, a complainant in the MUDA case, said that the allegations against the accused have not proven due to lack of evidence, and the final report has been submitted to the High Court. Besides Siddaramaiah and his wife, the accused include his brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy and the landowner Devaraju.

It is alleged that compensatory sites were allotted to Siddaramaiah’s wife in an upmarket area in Mysuru. The area had allegedly a higher property value as compared to the location of her land which had been “acquired” by the MUDA. Parvathi, the chief minister’s wife was allotted plots by MUDA under a 50:50 ratio scheme in lieu of 3.16 acres of her land, where it built a residential layout.

Under the controversial scheme, MUDA allotted 50 per cent of developed land to the land losers in lieu of undeveloped land acquired from them for forming residential layouts.

Snehamayi Krishna, the complainant in the case, has been given a week to challenge the report before the designated magistrate, noting that the investigation did not find any discrepancies in the matter.

Apart from Lokyukta, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also probing the MUDA scam case simultaneously. In September last year, the ED had filed a money laundering case against Siddaramaiah in connection with MUDA land scam, shortly after  Karnataka Lokayukta registered an FIR in the case.

The ED had stated that they are in possession of the details of the FIR and relevant case details, and that the offences fall under the schedule of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
