The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached 142 immovable properties worth approximately Rs 300 crore in connection with the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment scam.

This has led to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanding Karnataka Chief Minister  Siddaramaiah‘s immediate resignation.

According to the ED, Siddaramaiah allegedly used his political influence to acquire compensation for 14 sites in the name of his wife, B M Parvathi, in lieu of 3 acres and 16 guntas of land acquired by MUDA.

The land was originally acquired for Rs 3,24,700, but the compensation sites are valued at approximately Rs 56 crore. The ED has also implicated former MUDA commissioner D B Natesh in the illegal allotment of compensation sites to Parvathi.

BJP state president B Y Vijayendra has called for Siddaramaiah’s resignation, stating that the Chief Minister must step down to allow for an impartial investigation.

Vijayendra alleged that the ED’s investigation has exposed significant corruption involving Siddaramaiah and that the allocation of sites to “benamis” and dummies of influential persons highlights systemic corruption.

The BJP has been protesting against the alleged misuse of power by Siddaramaiah and his associates, both within and outside the assembly.

The party, along with its ally Janata Dal (Secular), had organised a “Mysuru Chalo” march demanding Siddaramaiah’s resignation after the Lokayukta police registered an FIR in the MUDA Scam.

Vijayendra praised the ED for thwarting any attempts by Siddaramaiah to subvert the investigation. He also pointed out that the Karnataka High Court had upheld Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s decision to sanction the prosecution of Siddaramaiah, emphasising that the allegations against the Chief Minister’s family warranted deeper investigation.

Vijayendra said that the ED’s revelation is just the tip of the iceberg and that thousands of crores in public money have been misappropriated in the scam. He has called for a comprehensive Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation to fully uncover the scandal.
