As a Delhi court granted bail to AAP supremo and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on June 20 in the excise policy case, party leaders welcomed the court order terming it ‘Satyamev Jayate’ (Truth wins). After being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, the Delhi chief minister was granted an interim bail last month for election campaigns. He returned to the Tihar jail on June 2 as the bail expired. However, Kejriwal walked out of jail yesterday after getting bail from Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on a bond of Rs. one lakh.
However, noting how the interpretation of bail becomes a victory, BJP leader Manjinder Sirsa lambasted the AAP leaders for their comment ‘Satyamev Jayate’. “If getting bail is victory, I would like to say that there is not a single person who was arrested for corruption and did not get bail,” news agency PTI quoted the BJP national secretary as saying.

He further stated that getting bail doesn’t mean there is no evidence against the chief minister. “Evidence was there, and this is why the same court sent you to jail and then gave you bail, so you can’t even say the court is biased,” the BJP leader said.
Sanjay Singh, the AAP leader who was arrested in the same case and was granted bail later said that the justice has prevailed in a case built on lies, deceit and fabricated facts. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) the AAP Rajya Sabha MP wrote that the bail granted to the Delhi chief minister will strengthen people’s faith in the country’s judicial system. “This decision is a strong slap on the lies of the BJP. There is a wave of happiness among every worker of the Aam Aadmi Party. Satyamev Jayate,” Sanjay Singh wrote.

Praising the court’s verdict, Delhi health minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said that the bail to the chief minister is a “milestone for the whole country,” noting that most people get relief only from the Supreme Court. “This decision will set a big example in our law and order system. In PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act), most of the people get relief only from the Supreme Court, usually the lower courts never give relief,” he said.

The minister further alleged that the Additional Solicitor General during the debate said that when they do not have any evidence, they have to make government witnesses and for this, we have to bribe them. “Therefore it is clear that the Central Government does not have any evidence in this matter,” Saurabh Bharadwaj said. The AAP leader Atishi also hailed the bail penning ‘Satyemeva Jayate (Truth wins),’ on her X platform.
