BJP Workers Attack Journalist Nikhil Wagle’s Car In Pune Over X Post On PM Modi, LK Advani

After reports emerged that an FIR has been filed against journalist Nikhil Wagle over an X post, his car was attacked in Maharashtra’s Pune. Mr Wagle, an open critic of the establishment was on his way to an event with some fellow activists when BJP workers surrounded his car.

Video footages those are viral on social media showed Wagle, Vishwambhar Choudhari, and Asim Sarode”s vehicle being halted by BJP workers, who proceeded to break the window panes with punches while shouting slogans and insisting on Wagle”s removal from the vehicle.

On February 4, in the X post, Nikhil Wagle criticised PM Narendra Modi and LK Advani over the latter being conferred with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. The post was written in Marathi, and the post meant, the award was “by one rioter to another rioter!”.

A Maharashtra police officer has told Deccan Herald that the journalist has been booked under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 500 (defamation) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Vishrambaug police station.
