Pune, Maharashtra: Another day, another video of urine therapy. A video posted by a self-styled “medicine-free life coach” from Pune has triggered widespread backlash and mockery across social media after she was seen washing her eyes with her own urine and recommending it as a daily health routine.
Nupur Pittie, who describes herself on Instagram as a “medicine-free life coach,” shared a now-deleted video titled “Urine Eye Wash – Nature’s Own Medicine”. In the video, she claimed that using the first urine of the morning could relieve symptoms such as eye redness, dryness, and irritation. She even demonstrated the routine, placing her eyes over urine-filled cups and blinking repeatedly to allow the liquid to enter her eyes.

According to Pittie, the next steps involved rolling the eyes in all directions – up, down, and side to side – to maximise coverage. She then advised viewers to pat the eyes dry (without rubbing) and transfer warmth from their palms to the eyelids to complete the process.
The video quickly went viral before being deleted, but not before it caught the attention of doctors and health professionals who slammed the practice.
Hepatologist Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, popularly known online as The Liver Doc, reshared the video on X (formerly Twitter) with a warning: “Please don’t put your urine inside your eyes. Urine is not sterile.”

Health experts have widely condemned the claims, stressing that urine contains waste products filtered by the kidneys, and its application to sensitive organs like the eyes can lead to serious infections or damage.
This is not the first time Pittie has made unusual health claims related to urine. She previously revealed she underwent a 10-day “urine fast,” during which she reportedly consumed only her own urine, claiming it improved her skin and made her feel “lighter.” In earlier posts, she also promoted eye-washing with Triphala, a traditional Ayurvedic herbal formulation.

Netizens were quick to express their disappointment on watching the video, many couldn’t help but wonder, “Why?”. One social media user asked. “why why why how do people justify putting the body’s waste back into the body?” another asked, “Why does every natural healing tutorial starts with either cow dung or urine?”
Another X user pointed out. “Someone tell this aunty that the first urine of the morning actually contains more bacteria than urine passed later in the day. Why? Because it sits in the bladder overnight, giving bacteria more time to multiply. Putting that into your eyes isn’t just misguided—it’s downright dangerous.”
