BRS Leader K Kavitha Arrested In Delhi Liquor Policy Case

K Kavitha’s Banjara Hills home in Telangana’s Hyderabad witnessed drama today as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials reached to arrest her in the Delhi liquor policy scam case. After many confrontations between Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader’s brother and chairperson of the party KT Rama Rao and the ED officials, the agency arrested Ms Kavitha, and according to reports, she is being taken to Delhi by the law enforcement sleuths.

A statement from the ED undersigned by Jogender, Assistant Director, said that the law enforcement agency and economic intelligence agency have reasons to believe that Ms Kavitha has been guilty of an offence punishable under the provision of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. The arrest of the Member of Telangana Legislative Council, also daughter of BRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao happened hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s road show in Hyderabad.

The ED said the arrest happened under sub section (1) of section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.

The ED previously asserted that Kavitha had ties to a collective referred to as the “South Group,” consisting of liquor traders endeavoring to exert influence within the now-defunct Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.

Additionally, the ED alleged that Vijay Nair, one of the defendants in the case, illicitly received kickbacks amounting to at least ₹100 crore from the “South Group” (reportedly overseen by Sarath Reddy, Kavitha, and Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy) on behalf of Arvind Kejriwal”s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, according to news agency PTI.

She was interrogated in the case the previous year but evaded two summons this year.

The Supreme Court, which had previously granted immunity to the BRS leader from interrogation until Wednesday, postponed the hearing on her plea against the agency”s summons in the case to Friday. The subsequent hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
