After “Drug-free Haryana”, observing and spreading awareness of “Car Free Day”, Haryana Chief Minister on Tuesday travelled to airport by riding a bike. Personal staffs, security officers, and party workers also accompanied the CM on motorbikes.

Mr Khattar took this initiative just a day after he announced a ban on the state”s hookah bars. The first car-free Tuesday to reduce traffic was observed by the state on September 5. The initiative was taken by chief minister himself and it was a success witnessing a good response from public.

Manohar Lal Khattar is the current and 10th Chief Minister of Haryana since 2014. He is a member Bharatiya Janata Party and a former RSS pracharak.

The 69-year-old, on Tuesday along with his personnel and party workers, choose to travel to Karnal Airport on bikes. It was part of an effort by the state government to encourage and inspire public to reduce car traffic by giving up their cars “just for one day”.

The CM on Tuesday took his X (formerly Twitter) handle and shared a video in which he along with others are riding bikes as part of “Car Free Day”.

“Be it “Car Free Day” or the resolve to make “Drug-free Haryana”, it cannot be accomplished without public cooperation”, said the Chief Minister. It was on Monday he announced a ban on hookah bars in the Haryana state, except for traditional hookahs in rural areas. He made the announcement while addressing the closing ceremony of a state-level “Cyclothon”, organised as part of a drug de-addiction campaign in Karnal.

“I also made a small effort to reduce car traffic today by traveling to Karnal Airport by bike on “Car Free Day”, the Chief Minister added.

“I hope that the aware people of the state will take this message forward and inspire people to give up their cars “just for one day” “, he said.
