Amid debates over work-related pressure and its aftereffects in corporate houses in India, following the death of a woman Ernst & Young (EY) employee from Kerala in Pune, a similar case involving a Chennai techie has caught media attention. A 38-year-old software engineer, Karthikeyan, died by suicide at his home in Chennai by electrocuting himself, after suffering from depression.

The incident happened on Thursday night, and the man’s wife found the victim lying unconscious with wires wrapped around him when she returned from the temple. He was alone at home at the time of the incident.  A native of Theni, Karthikeyan had been working at a software company in Pallavaram for the past 15 years. He lived in Chennai with his wife and two children, aged 10 and eight years.

According to the police, the man was under treatment for depression. Media house NDTV reported that the youth had complained of work pressure, though the family and the police have not confirmed the information. Karthikeyan recently shifted to a new job. “We are investigating the cause. He had recently shifted to a new company. In his suicide note, he left a message for every member of the family,” the media house quoted a police officer.

However, the police have registered a case of unnatural death and started an investigation.
