Congress party is considering to launch a second phase of the Bharat Jodo Yatra after the first week of January 2024, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Media report suggest that Rahul Gandhi led Bharat Jodo Yatra 2.0 is likely to be in a hybrid mode with the participants marching on foot and by vehicles.
Sources told India Today that two routes are being considered for the Yatra and if confirmed, the it will start from Northeastern state. The proposed period of the yatra will be in par with the Lok Sabha election of 2024. Congress is planning to include prominent faces from the opposition ranks, and the special focus of the 2nd phase of Bharat Jodo Yatra will be on Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra, as said by India Today.
Report says the second edition will be similar to the first edition filled with series of public meetings at the culmination point each day, which will be addressed by Rahul Gandhi. The first edition of the Bharat Jodo Yatra started on September 7, 2022 from Kanyakumari to Tamil Nadu. It covered a distance of 4,080 kilometers approximately in 2022. The Yatra then moved to Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir in January 2023.
The first Bharat Jodo Yatra has covered 75 districts of 12 states in 126 days. The Yatra was marked as India’s longest foot march. The Rahul Gandhi led Yatra was organized with the aim of uniting India against the schismatic politics of the incumbent BJP party. The Yatra also aimed at socio-economics issues like inequality and unemployment.
