Content Creator Pretends To Be Muslim, Abuses Hindu Voters In Ayodhya, Now Arrested

A recent viral video of a supposed Muslim man criticising the Hindus of Ayodhya for failing to elect the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to power in Faziabad constituency is making the rounds across social media platforms. However, a basic fact check reveals that the man in the video is named Dhirendra Raghav, a content creator on Instagram who plays different characters as part of the skits he uploads on the app. The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested Raghav, who is currently in police custody.

The police officials in Agra took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and said, “Taking immediate cognizance of the viral video on social media affecting social harmony, the New Agra police have registered a case, arrested the accused, and a legal action is being taken.”

On Thursday, fact-checker Mohammed Zubair shared the video and tagged the UP and Agra police to take action against Raghav for his “communal claim to incite Hindus against Muslims.”

Dressed in a white kurta and a skull cap on his head, Raghav refers to himself as a Muslim man and calls the Hindus living in Ayodhya “two-faced” for not electing the BJP candidate from the Faizabad constituency. He also added that if Congress leader Rahul Gandhi came to power, then Gandhi would give reservations to the Muslim community.

Raghav has gone viral previously as well. In a fact-check conducted by The Quint, the video of a Pakistani man praising India and PM Modi was revealed to the Indian content creator.

The recent video criticising the people of Ayodhya and Rahul Gandhi has since been deleted from Raghav’s Instagram page. The video had received several comments accusing him of inciting “hate” and “breaking religious harmony.”

The Faizabad constituency elected Samajwadi Party candidate Awadhesh Prasad over the BJP candidate and two-time MP Lallu Singh, in a major shock to the saffron party. Prasad is a Dalit candidate for a general seat who was up against the former RSS worker who made headlines after he publicly made remarks advocating for changing the Constitution on the day of Ambedkar Jayanti. Singh was closely related to the Ram Temple movement and was also an accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case, although he was acquitted in 2020.
