Addressing a Press Conference on Tuesday as the Lok Sabha election results were being announced, Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “people of Uttar Pradesh, understanding the political need of the country, protected the Constitution.” The former Congress president’s comments came after the party and its Opposition alliance made a comeback with substantial numbers on the heels of a stunning performance in Uttar Pradesh in the general elections.

“With your political wisdom, you have have done the exceptional. I want to congratulate you,” he added. Following INDIA bloc’s remarkable performance in the country, especially Uttar Pradesh, he extended congratulation to the people.

In Uttar Pradesh, BJP-led NDA who is looking for a third consecutive term has faced massive setback. As per the latest reports, INDIA bloc is ahead of the ruling NDA and in the heartland region, it posed huge dent to the saffron vote bank.

In Uttar Pradesh, as the BJP contested in majority of the seats, the INDIA bloc partners – SP contested in 63 seats,  and Congress in 17.

In the 2019 election,  the BJP secured 62 seats (64 seats by the NDA), while the BSP secured 9, the SP 5 and Congress 1.
