Police Complaint Filed Against BJP Leader PC George’s Communal Remarks

A police complaint has been lodged against BJP leader and former MLA PC George for making hate speech during a televised discussion. The Welfare Party filed the complaint on January 9, 2025 at the Kayamkulam Police Station, accusing George of inciting religious hatred with his comments on Janam TV.

In the controversial discussion on January 6, George stated, “All Muslims should go to Pakistan. Let us live peacefully here,” and “All those born as Muslims are communalists.” He further alleged, “Muslims have killed thousands of Hindus and Christians. All Muslims in India are communalists. There is not a single Muslim in India who is not a communalist. Their method is to kill anyone who is not a Muslim after looking up their clothes.”

The Welfare Party’s complaint described the remarks as an attempt to incite religious hatred and foster divisions among communities in Kerala. The party’s Kayamkulam area secretary, Navas Alayil, said the statements violated the spirit of communal harmony and called for legal action under sections 192 and 353 of the BNS. The complaint noted that “such racially biased and premeditated statements aim to provoke riots for political gain.”

Meanwhile, the state leadership of the Welfare Party has also filed another complaint with the state police chief.

In response to the backlash, George apologised on Thursday, stating: “When the representative of the Muslim League provoked me during the channel discussion, it was noticed that the meaning that all Muslims in India are terrorists was implied in my reply. I unconditionally retract the reply that all Muslims in India are terrorists and apologise to the Muslim brothers who were hurt by it.” However, George maintained, “I clearly know that there is a small percentage of people among them who have extremist views. I will always strongly oppose them and all those who silently support them.”

Plathottathil Chacko George, born on 28 August 1951, is a seasoned Indian politician currently affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A seven-time MLA representing the Poonjar constituency in Kerala, George served in the Kerala Legislative Assembly for 33 years between 1982-2021.

He previously belonged to several political parties, including Kerala Congress and its factions, before forming his own party, Kerala Janapaksham (Secular), in 2016. Ahead of the 2024 general elections, his party merged with the BJP.
