According to the Police, the suspected explosive device possibly a grenade — fell in front of Kalia’s gate at around 1 am. Police soon reached the spot along with the forensic team of experts.

Jalandhar, Punjab: An explosion occurred outside the residence of former Punjab minister and BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia in the wee hours of Tuesday, April 8. Though Kalia was inside his house at the time of the attack he was unharmed.

According to the Police, the suspected explosive device possibly a grenade — fell in front of Kalia’s gate at around 1 am. Police soon reached the spot along with the forensic team of experts.

While speaking to the media, the senior BJP leader said that he woke up to the sound initially thinking it was a transformer explosion. Then he thought it was sound of a thunder but later he got informed that a blast had occurred. Kalia said that his gunman then went to the police station to report the incident.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said, “Around 1 am, we received information about a blast, following which we reached the scene and began our investigation. The forensic team is examining the matter. We are also reviewing CCTV footage to determine whether it was a grenade attack or something else,” Business Standard reports, as Kaur is saying.

The CCTV recordings accessed by the police shows a person arriving in an e-rickshaw, throwing an unidentified object near the house, and fleeing in the same vehicle. The police are reviewing the footage and trying to decipher whether it was a grenade attack and examining the site to identify the suspect.
