Dalit Woman Stripped, Beaten, And Forced To Drink Urine Over Rs 1500 Loan In Bihar

A Dalit woman was reportedly assaulted, stripped, and forced to drink urine in the Patna district of Bihar, as she failed to pay ₹1,500 interest on a ₹9,000 loan.

According to Bihar police, quoted by Hindustan Times, the woman was beaten severely, stripped naked, and compelled to drink urine. She had sustained with a head injury is currently under treatment. She went to the police station and filed a complaint on Saturday night. There are six accused in the case and all are absconding.

“The cause of the incident was for an interest of ₹1500. Woman came to the police station on Saturday night and gave a written complaint. Her allegations in the complaint are being verified by the police. The raids are on to arrest accused involved in the incident”, HT quoted Fatuha S Yadav, Deputy Superintendent of Police.

It was around ten in the night, six men approached and attacked the woman. She was out at that time to fetch water from a nearby pump.

“About six persons caught me and made me naked and then brutally assaulted me. One of the accused took urine and pushed it into my mouth. They also started assaulting with lathi in which received head injuries. I somehow escaped from the spot and reached the police station”, stated the women in her complaint, said police.

“In Patna, even after returning the loan of Rs 1400, a Dalit woman was asked for more money and when she did not give it, she was stripped naked, beaten and made to drink urine”, said Delhi Commission for Women”s Chairperson Swati Maliwal on X (formerly Twitter). Ms Maliwal alleged that the police refused to take any action even after the woman gave a complaint earlier.

“The woman had earlier also complained to the police, but no action was taken. Bihar government and police should immediately provide security to the woman and take strict action against the criminals”, she added.

BJP spokesperson Yogendra Paswan condemned the incident and slammed the chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy chief minister Tejaswi Yadav over the incident. Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi said to PTI that, “Any incident of sexual assault or oppression against women is shameful and regretful. Strict action will be taken against those guilty”.
