Deeply Anguished, Disturbed: Press Club Of India On Bihar Journalist Killing

Journalists” body Press Club of India expressed their deep anguish and added they are disturbed over the killing of Dainik Jagran journalist Vimal Kumar Yadav at his home in Araria, Bihar.

The organisation condemned “this dastardly act” and demanded Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar “personally assures swift action against the culprits”.

On Friday, speaking to the media in Patna, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called the incident a “sad incident” and said that he had immediately directed officials to investigate the crime as he heard about the news. “How can a journalist be killed like this,” he told the media.

The Press Club of India said “the incident highlights the alarming state of safety and security for journalists in the country, and we are deeply concerned about their well-being. We urge the concerned authorities to take immediate and swift action to apprehend the criminals responsible for this heinous ac.”

He was, according to reports, allegedly shot by four men at around 5.30 in the morning.

“In the Raniganj Bazar area, a journalist namely Vimal Kumar Yadav was shot dead by unidentified miscreants”, news agency ANI quoted Ashok Kumar Singh, the Superintendent of Police in Bihar’s Araria.

The accused reached Mr Yadav’s residence in the morning at the Prem Nagar locality and called him out. As he came out and reached the gate shots were fired.

Though he was immediately taken to the nearby hospital, the doctors certified that Mr Yadav was brought dead.

Yesterday, the District Journalist Association strongly condemned the incident and urged an immediate arrest of the accused. “The incident indicates how criminals are roaming freely on the streets and shooting anyone dead at their will. If journalists are not safe, what can be said about the safety of other?”, asked the Association as quoted by the Times of India.
