The Supreme Court on Monday directed former Delhi Minister and AAP leader Satyendar Jain to surrender  forthwith. Dismissing his bail petition, the apex Court has asked AAP leader to surrender in connection with Delhi Excise Policy case. He was out on an interim medical bail since May 26 last year and it was extended till date citing various factors, primarily health.

A two judge-bench of the Top Court, led by Justice Bela M Trivedi and comprising Justice Pankaj Mithal declared the verdict. “The appeals are dismissed. The petitioner is directed to surrender forthwith,” Hindustan Times quotes as the Court is saying.

Satyendar Jain requested that the court grant him at least one week to surrender, stating that he is unwell and currently undergoing physiotherapy. However, the court rejected his plea and maintained its order. The Supreme Court has also dismissed the bail application of co-accused Ankush Jain.

AAP leader was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in May 2022 on the basis of a FIR filed by the CBI against him under sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He was allegedly accused of laundering money through four companies linked to him. Indo Metalimpex, Paryas Infosolution, Akinchan Developers and Mangalayatan Projects were those four companies. Jain was accused of misusing his power as minister from February 2015 to May 2017 to acquire assets amounting Rs. 1.47 crore. Satyendar Jain denied all these allegations, and claimed innocence in the case.

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju appeared for ED and senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared for AAP leader in the court.

Recently, BRS leader K Kavitha has been arrested by ED officials in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam case. Earlier in relation with the case, Senior AAP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and another AAP leader, Sanjay Singh, have been arrested.
