Delhi Man Arrested For Recording Woman Tenant With Hidden Cameras In Bathroom And Bedroom

A 30-year-old specially abled man has been arrested in Shakarpur, Delhi, for allegedly using hidden cameras to film a woman tenant in her bathroom and bedroom, according to the police.

The tenant, who is preparing for civil service exams, lives alone in rented accommodation in Shakarpur. The accused, Karan, is the son of her landlord and stays on a different floor in the same building. When the woman visited her hometown in Uttar Pradesh, she gave Karan the keys to her apartment.

The woman later noticed unusual activity on her WhatsApp account, which prompted her to investigate further. She discovered an unfamiliar laptop linked to her account and immediately logged out. This raised her suspicions, and she started searching her apartment for any monitoring devices, the police revealed.

“She eventually found a camera hidden in the bulb holder of her bathroom and immediately called the police,” a senior officer stated.

A sub-inspector then conducted another search of the apartment and discovered one more camera in the bulb holder of her bedroom.

When asked about who else had access to her apartment, the woman said that she often left the keys with Karan during her trips.

Karan confessed during interrogation that he had installed the cameras after the woman left her keys with him three months ago. “Taking advantage of the situation, Karan purchased three spy cameras, commonly found in electronic markets, and installed one in the bedroom and another in the bathroom,” said the police officer.

The cameras did not have online access, and the footage had to be saved on memory cards. Karan reportedly requested the keys from the woman several times to carry out electrical repairs or some other excuse to retrieve the recorded footage and transfer it to his laptop.

As part of the investigation, the police seized one of the hidden cameras and two laptops used to store the footage. Karan faces charges of voyeurism under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which could result in a minimum one-year prison sentence. An investigation is on.
