New Delhi: Heavy rainfall washed parts of the national capital, including Mahadev Road, on Tuesday evening, offering much-needed relief from the intense heatwave conditions that have gripped Delhi over the past several days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert earlier in the day, forecasting severe weather across the Delhi-NCR region.
The IMD also warned of hailstorms and thunderstorms affecting Delhi, NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan. In addition to Delhi, isolated parts of Bihar, East Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and North Interior Karnataka are expected to experience heavy rainfall ranging between 7–11 cm.

Visuals from Delhi showed cars driving through waterlogged roads during the evening downpour, as the capital braced for more weather disturbances. Trace rainfall had already been reported on Monday, signalling the gradual advancement of the southwest monsoon.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, a low-pressure system persists over southwest Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, likely intensifying and moving west-northwestward over the next 24 hours. This development is expected to enhance monsoon activity over central and northern India.
With the red alert in place, the IMD also issued a moderate thunderstorm warning for Delhi, advising residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
