Mumbai, Maharashtra: Torrential downpour is affecting Mumbai on Monday, submerging low-lying areas and posing disruptions to traffic and local train services. Mumbai’s island city Colaba has recorded three-digit rainfall – 100.4 mm during the 24-hour cycle that ended at 8.30 am Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports.
The weather bureau also forecasted cloudy skies with the possibility of heavy rainfall at a few places in the city and suburbs in the next 24 hours. Later, IMD has issued an ‘Orange’ alert in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar and a ‘Red’ alert for Raigad on Monday.

Due to incessant rain, carriers like IndiGo, and SpiceJet issued travel advisories. “Due to airspace closure over Iran and nearby regions, some flight routes may be impacted—potentially causing longer travel times or cancellations. Please check your flight status on our website or app before heading to the airport,” IndiGO said in a X post.

Similarly, SpiceJet issued a statement considering the weather conditions.

Train services were also affected due to heavy downpour. Suburban train services on the Central and Western Railway were delayed by 20 to 30 minutes on Monday morning. The metro services on the Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova line were disrupted in the afternoon for a short period of time, after a plastic sheet fell on overhead wires at Azad Nagar station.
Mumbai Metro One shared an update on X, saying, “Metro services are running normally now. Due to heavy winds, a plastic sheet from a nearby construction site flew onto the overhead electrical lines near Azad Nagar Metro station, disrupting train services.”
