Mumbai Rains: Torrential rainfall hit on Sunday night and early Monday resulted in waterlogging several areas of Mumbai. A day after monsoon started in Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced the beginning of monsoon in Maharashtra on Sunday since southwest monsoon advanced into some parts of the State.
Mumbai recorded 58 mm of rainfall in the city area, 19 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 15 mm in the western suburbs, between 8 am on May 25 and 8 am on May 26.

The weather body also reported that “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and intense spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai during next 3-4 hours. Take precautions while moving out.”

The suburban services on the Central and Western Railway were delayed, and road traffic slowed down due to poor visibility, PTI reports.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde conducted a review meeting on the situation in rain-hit districts such as Thane, and communicated with disaster management officials to evaluate preparedness.
