Heavy Downpour Triggers Widespread Flooding In Bengaluru, Submerges Low-Lying Areas

Bengaluru, Karnataka: The southwest monsoon has continued its steady advance across southern India, bringing widespread rainfall to Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The  India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue red and orange alerts for several districts of both the state.

The southwest monsoon is India’s main rainy season, typically lasting from June to September and accounting for nearly 70% of the country’s annual rainfall, making it crucial for agriculture, reservoirs, drinking water supplies, and hydropower generation.

As the monsoon current strengthens over the Arabian Sea, Karnataka is among the first states expected to receive a significant increase in rainfall. The minimum temperatures in the city are also expected to dip gradually, bringing relief from the summer heat.

Bengaluru is likely to receive heavy showers and thunderstorms over the next few days, followed by generally cloudy skies and intermittent rain through the week
