At Least 10 Killed After Landslide, Flash Flood Hit Indonesia's West Java, Rescue Efforts Ongoing

West Java, Indonesia: West Java province in Indonesia witnessed heavy rain and subsequent landslides and flashfloods on Saturday, January 24, killing at least 10 people in residential areas. The incident happened at around 3:00 a.m. local time and the sleeping residents reported hearing a loud rumbling sound before soil and mud swept from Pasirkuning Village toward Pasir Kuda Village.

Authorities have intensified rescue efforts as around 80 people are missing after the tragic landslide. The catastrophe hit West Bandung Regency of Indonesia’s West Java Province, and the adjacent regions, as per the National Disaster Management Agency.

Many houses were reported to have been buried under the mud and debris due to the landslide, causing severe damage to residential areas near the affected site.

According to the weather agency, the rain havoc might continue for a week in the ​province and several other regions. Rescue efforts have been disrupted by heavy terrain,  thick landslide material and the potential for further rainfall.

Local administrations have issued warning to the residents living near the affected area to remain alert and stay away from landslide-prone zones, as possibility for further catastrophe cannot be ruled out.
