Massive IndiGo Flight Problems Leave Thousands Of Passengers Stranded Across India

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is facing one of its biggest breakdowns in recent years.

For the last two days, passengers at airports across India have been struggling as hundreds of IndiGo flights have been delayed or cancelled. People have been waiting for hours without clear information, and airports are crowded and chaotic.

According to the reports, more than 300 flights have been cancelled in the past 48 hours.

Over 100 more cancellations are expected today. IndiGo has said that the airline is dealing with “unexpected operational issues.”

These include technical problems, crew shortages, winter schedule changes, and airport congestion. But for passengers, the situation has simply been a major disruption.

The aviation regulator DGCA held an urgent meeting with IndiGo officials to understand what went wrong and to demand a detailed explanation.

The meeting has now ended, but the problems for passengers continue. The Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has also asked for a full review and has called all stakeholders for discussion.

Airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and many others have seen long lines, confused passengers, and crowded terminals.

At  Pune Airport, almost all parking bays are full of grounded IndiGo planes. At Ahmedabad Airport, passengers complained that they were being told to wait without any final information.

IndiGo’s on-time performance has dropped severely.

On December 3, the airline recorded only 19.7% on-time departures at six major airports. This means most flights were delayed by hours.

Passengers in Jammu, Pune, Ahmedabad and other cities said that their flights were delayed by 4 to 6 hours, sometimes without proper communication.

Experts say the disruption is due to a mix of problems. IndiGo expanded its fleet quickly but did not hire enough trained crew to operate the new aircraft.

Many pilots are already working long hours, and new duty-time rules have made scheduling even tighter. These manpower issues created a chain reaction across IndiGo’s huge network, leading to nationwide delays.

Social media is full of videos and posts from frustrated travellers. Popular YouTuber Elvish Yadav shared images of packed airport terminals. Politicians like Priyanka Chaturvedi criticised the airline and said the aviation minister should make a statement in Parliament.

Cochin International Airport issued an advisory asking passengers to check with airlines before coming to the airport. Many people complained that IndiGo did not send delay or cancellation messages in advance, leaving them stuck at terminals for hours.

IndiGo has apologised to passengers and said it is adjusting schedules for 48 hours to bring operations back to normal. However, most travellers are still waiting for clear updates, and the airline’s share price has fallen by 1.5% as investors worry about the financial impact.

For now, the situation remains tense at airports across the country. Thousands of passengers are hoping that flights resume smoothly soon, but the nationwide disruption continues.
