The Parliamentary Ethics Committee probing into the cash-for-query allegations against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra recommended expelling her from the Lok Sabha and advised cancellation of her membership. In ethics panel, sources revealed to NDTV, six members voted in favour of the recommendation and four had voted against it.

TMC MP’s actions were “highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal” and called for severe punishment, NDTV cited the draft report. The report will be submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on tomorrow.

The Parliamentary Ethics Committee convened on Thursday to adopt a draft report on the cash-for-query allegations raised against TMC MP. The panel was headed by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar and consisted of 15 members where seven members from the ruling BJP, three from the Congress, and one each from BSP, Shiv Sena, YSRCP, CPI(M) and JDU.

The ethics body looked into BJP MP Dr Nishikant Dubey”s allegation that TMC MP received bribes and favours for raising questions in the Parliament targeting Adani group at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani. The complaint also claims that Ms Moitra had misused her parliamentary login and id by allowing Mr Hiranandani to post questions on her behalf.

The ethics panel began examining the case on October 26, and in its first meeting, panel questioned Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, whom Ms Moitra calls “jilted ex,” and Mr Dubey, and they recorded their statements. Ms Moitra appeared before the panel on November 2. However, she along with opposition members walked out the meeting alleging that chairperson asked her personal and indecent questions.
