New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday stated that there are “far deeper reasons” for Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation as the Vice-President, raising suspicion over the timing and intent behind this move.

In an X post, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, pointed out that Dhankhar’s move was unprecedented and added that he had chaired the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

“Yesterday, Shri Jagdeep Dhankar chaired the Business Advisory Committee of the Rajya Sabha at 12:30 p.m. It was attended by most members, including Leader of the House JP Nadda and the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju. After some discussion, the BAC decided to meet again at 4:30 p.m.,” Ramesh said in the post.

“At 4:30 p.m., the BAC reassembled under the chairmanship of Shri Jagdeep Dhankar. It waited for Shri Nadda and Shri Rijiju to arrive. They never came. Shri Jagdeep Dhankar was not personally informed that the two senior Ministers were not attending. Rightly he took umbrage and rescheduled the BAC for today at 1 p.m.,” Congress leader added.

Continuing further, Jairam Ramesh suggested that something “very serious” occurred between 1 PM and 4:30 PM which prompted the intentional non-participation of Nadda and Rijiju in the subsequent BAC meeting. Congress leader then lauded the steps taken by Dhankar during different periods of time.

Congress leader stated that the resignation speaks highly of Dhankar and poorly of those who had got him elected to Vice-President post.
