Farmers Agitation: Chandigarh Administration Imposes Section 144

In anticipation of the scheduled farmers” march and agitation on February 13, 2024, at the borders of Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi, the Chandigarh Administration has taken precautionary measures by imposing Section 144 Cr.P.C. The administration has banned gatherings of five or more people, processions, demonstrations, and the carrying of sticks or weapons for a period of 60 days.

As part of the restrictions, no vehicles, especially tractors and trolleys, will be permitted to move within the territory of UT, Chandigarh. This decision aims to maintain law and order and prevent potential disruptions to public safety during the planned agitation.

The administration has also issued a public notice informing residents about potential traffic disruptions at the Chandigarh borders on February 12 and 13. Neighboring states have issued traffic advisories, and road users are advised to follow route diversions for their convenience.

Meanwhile, as the farmers from different states are calling to march to Delhi raising their demands, the central government is waiting for them at the national capital border with cement barricades, iron nails, suspension of internet, suspension of SMS services, and heavy police deployment. Reacting to the government’s extreme measures to block farmers, Congress referring to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the dictator got scared again.

Taking to X, Congress noted the heavy security arrangements being made at the Delhi border to prevent the farmers protesting the injustice of the Modi government from entering Delhi. It also asked the government to lister to the food providers demand and solve them.
