“Rajya Sabha To Bulldoze 3 Surprise Bills… Modi Government Wants Zero Discussion”: Saket Gokhale

Narendra Modi government will table three surprise bills in Rajya Sabha today. The three bills that will be considered in the upper house were not mentioned in the Parliament Bulletin released before the session.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP, Saket Gokhale, criticized the government for not including the bills in the bulletin and alleged that the government has taken this stance in order to pass the bill to avoid any discussion on it.

“In yet another shocking move, the Modi Govt has announced suspension of business today in Rajya Sabha to bulldoze 3 surprise Bills. These Bills were never mentioned in the Parliament Bulletin released before the session,” the Rajya Sabha MP wrote on X.

Further questioning the government’s move, he asked, “If the Govt had to pass Bills, why not extend the duration of the Parliament Session?”

The TMC leader then asserted that, “Plain & clear – it’s because Modi Govt wants zero discussions on these Bills & wants to again undermine Parliament by bulldozing them last-minute.”

Union parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi will move a motion in the Rajya Sabha today to suspend the provisions of rule 17 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) for consideration and passing of three bills, reports ANI.

The three bills that will be tabled today are the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (ii) the Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024; (iii) the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Bill, 2024 by the House.

Union minister Arjun Munda will move the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024 today in the upper house. It is the amendment of the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 in order to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in relation to the State of Andhra Pradesh.

The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Bill, 2024 will be presented by Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav.

Parliamentary Bulletin is issued daily during the Session period and contains a brief record of daily items taken up by the Lok Sabha. Session-wise compilation on the Bulletins, after editing, is published as a ‘resume of work”.
