Five more states, namely Mizoram, Telangana, Rajasthan, Bihar and Himachal Pradesh came forward requesting the National Skill Development Corporation International (NSDCI) to conduct the job recruiting process for Israel. Earlier, only two states, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh approached the NSDC with around 5,600 candidates being selected.

Since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war, Israel has suspended huge number Palestinians who have been working under construction industry and revoked their work permit. The Israeli construction industry has been looking for workers from India and other countries to fill the gap.

Earlier this month, 15 members of Israeli team arrived at India for hiring construction workers across Indian states. The hiring was conducted in Haryana in Haryana from January 16-20, and among the 1,370 candidates, 530 were selected. In the hiring process conducted at Uttar Pradesh, out of the 7,182 candidates, 5,087 were selected.

As per National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) sources, if 5,000 candidates work in Israel for five years, India would get a remittance of Rs 5,000 crore. Dharmendra Pradhan, union minister for skill development and entrepreneurship said that, “this is the work in progress on PM’s vision to make India the global hub for skilled manpower. This is part of the holistic approach towards making of Viksit Bharat. Not just Israel, India is set to many other countries”.

The hiring is for the role such as Bar Bender, Mason, Tiler, Stuttering Carpenter, with a monthly salary of Rs 1.37 lakh, apart from medical insurance, food, and accommodation. A bonus of Rs 16,515 per month will also be provided for the candidates, as reported by media.

Earlier this month, by emphasising India’s labour mobility partnership with Israel, Randhir Jaiswal, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, said that “We have a labour mobility partnership with several countries across the world and we have an agreement now with Israel as well. The agreement itself started long before the conflict erupted…The idea behind the agreement was to put in place an institutional mechanism that regulates migration to that country,”.

Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge took a jibe at Modi government against the rate of unemployment in the country by citing that, “thousands of Indians made a beeline seeking JOBS in Israel, willing to risk their lives during a war”, the Congress President pointed out the “rural distress” as daily wages for men in rural areas has become Rs 212 in 2022-2023, which is lower than that of Rs 220 in 2014.
