Five Of A Family Killed As Moving Car Catches Fire On Delhi-Mumbai Expressway In Rajasthan

Alwar, Rajasthan: At least five persons from a family were charred to death after a moving car caught fire. The incident happened on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on Thursday, April 30.

The victims’ car was returning from a pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi when it caught fire near Maujpur. The deceased include Three women, a minor girl and a man, and all of them were residents of Sheopur district in Madhya Pradesh.

A short circuit is suspected to have triggered the blaze, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Kailash Jindal. As it was a CNG vehicle, the fire spread fast, leaving the occupants with no time to escape.

The rescuers could only recover the burned skeletal remains from the vehicle, and a DNA tests will be conducted to establish their identity. Though the car driver, identified as Vinod Kumar Mehar, managed to jump out of the vehicle but sustained around 80 per cent burn injuries, leading to his death.

Additional Superintendent of Police Priyanka Raghuvanshi said fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control in 15 minutes.
