An FIR has been registered against BS Yediyurappa, former Karnataka Chief Minister, for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl. The prominent BJP leader was charged under POSCO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, and IPC (Indian Penal Code) section 354 (A), said ANI.
The FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by the 17-year old girl’s mother. Reportedly, the alleged assault took place on February 2, 2024, when the mother and daughter had gone to seek the former Chief Minster’s help in connection with a cheating case.
Responding to the issue, G Parameshwara, the Karnataka Home Minister ruled out any political angle of the case. He said he do not know of any political angle to the case. He said nobody knew the lady who filed the complaint, and when she went to the police, the police registered the case. Parameswaran said, “until or unless we know the truth, we cannot reveal anything. This is a very sensitive matter because it involves a former Chief Minister. Let”s see what the report says”.
Meanwhile, Yediyurappa’s office rubbished the allegations and the charges against him. Reportedly, the office released a list of cases filed by the complainant in the past, and there are 53 different complaints on the list. Yediyurappa’s office insinuated that the teen has a habit of complaining.
Yediyurappa held the chair of Chief Minister of Karnataka during various stints, from 2008 to 2011, a brief period in 2018, and from 2019 to 2021.
