"His Contribution Has Been Immense...": PM Modi Praises Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh In Rajya Sabha (image-twitter/RavinderKapur2)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while speaking in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, praised Congress leader and former Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh”s service to the nation. While commenting on the Congress leader”s contribution, PM Modi said that his predecessor Manmohan Singh has been an inspiration to all lawmakers.

PM Modi made this praising remarks while bidding farewell to the retiring members of the House. The session was marked with Modi”s recognition of Dr Singh”s enduring legacy. During his speech, he specifically took a moment to appreciate Manmohan Singh. Lauding his contribution, Modi said, “I want to remember Dr Manmohan Singh today, his contribution has been immense…For such a long time, the way he has guided this House & Country, Dr Manmohan Singh will always be remembered for it…”

He further recalled the moments when Mr Singh arrived at the parliament in a wheelchair to cast his vote over a key legislation. “I remember in the other House, during the voting, it was known that the treasury bench would win, but Dr Manmohan Singh came in his wheelchair and cast his vote,” Prime Minister Modi said. “This an example of a member being alert of his duties,” he further added.

Narendra Modi said that it doesn”t matter who Mr. Singh supports and that he believes “he was only strengthening this democracy”. “I pray that he lives long and keeps guiding us,” he added. Praising Manmohan Singh”s contribution as a leader and in the opposition has been immense, the Prime minister said that the ideological differences are short-lived but Manmohan Singh has guided the House and the country for such a long period. “He will be remembered for his contributions during every discussion on our democracy”.

Meanwhile, in the speech delivered in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, unleashed a scathing attack on Congress and former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. But contrary to the usual pattern, Modi”s words this time reflected a rare moment of bipartisan appreciation.
