As the Sandeshkali unrest in West Bengal is hitting headlines, Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday slammed the BJP for their alleged Khalistani remark. The TMC chief”s reaction came in response to protesting BJP leaders” calling a Sikh police officer “Khalistani.”
On social media platform X, Mamata Banerjee shared the video in which BJP protestors and Police officer engaging in confrontation. “Today, the BJP”s divisive politics has shamelessly overstepped constitutional boundaries. As per @BJP4India every person wearing a TURBAN is a KHALISTANI,” she said in the tweet.

“I VEHEMENTLY CONDEMN this audacious attempt to undermine the reputation of our SIKH BROTHERS & SISTERS, revered for their SACRIFICES and UNWAVERING DETERMINATION to our nation,” Chief Minister added.
Continuing further, Mamata Banerjee affirmed that Bengal”s social harmony will be protected and will take stringent lawful measures “to prevent any attempts to disrupt it.”
The Sandeshkhali island in West Bengal”s North 24 Parganas district has been witnessing unrest over 10 days as the women in the region have been fighting against alleged atrocities committed against them by TMC leader Sheikh Shajahan and his two associates, Uttam Sardar and Shibu Hazra. It has been accused that women were sexually assaulted in Sandeshkhali at gun points. Besides, there were also allegation that tribal people were forced to transfer their lands by the TMC leader.
As per the reports, Sheikh Shajahan, the main accused, remains absconding, and the ED has issued a lookout notice against him. Following Shibu Hazra”s arrest on Sunday, Mamata Banerjee slammed the BJP over the Sandeshkali incident and said that it was “one incident” and the party was making a ” mountain of a molehill”.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, and Senior CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat were stopped from visiting Sandeshkhali on Tuesday.
