West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Sunday slammed the BJP over Sandeshkali incident and said that it was “one incident” and the party was making “mountain of a molehill”.
It was while addressing an event in Birbhum, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said: “One incident happened. It was made to happen. First, the ED went. Then its friend, the BJP, went there. Some media went along and they are making a mountain out of a molehill. They are trying to disrupt peace here and starting a fire.”
Her response came after Shibu Hazra, one of the main accused in the Sandeshkhali land grabbing and sexual harassment case has been arrested on Sunday. Over a week, women in West Bengal”s Sandeshkhali have been fighting against alleged atrocities committed against them by TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh and his associates. It has been accused that women were sexually assaulted in Sandeshkhali at gun points. Besides, there were also allegation that tribal people were forced to transfer their lands by the TMC leader.
In response to opposition”s allegations that that there were several such incidents where local people being oppressed, Mamata Banerjee said: “No one had complained before, no FIR was filed,” since she has asked the police to lodge “suo motu” cases.
Adding further, TMC supremo said: “I want to tell people that whoever has any complaint, I will send officers and they will listen to you. If anyone feels that someone has taken something from someone, everything will be returned.”
A TMC group consisting three ministers visited Sandeshkhali on last Tuesday and promised to ensure justice to the women; “zero tolerance against any wrongdoing” India Today reported as TMC delegation is saying.
