Kolkata, West Bengal: Police have filed a fresh FIR against former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly delivering communal remarks during a pre-election speech. The TMC chief is facing back to back legal and political challenges from the ruling BJP after losing power during the recent assembly elections.

Notably, The case includes serious provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with opposition leaders accusing her of making inflammatory statements.

The FIR alleged that the former chief minister’s speech during a rally could promote communal disharmony and public unrest, while seeking legal action against Mamata Banerjee over alleged inflammatory and communal remarks.

The complainant, Tushar Kanti Das, alleged that the remark was capable of creating fear, misunderstanding, and tension among different communities in the state of West Bengal. The complaint was submitted to the Netaji Nagar Police Station in South Kolkata on May 20, according to the reports.
