“Legal Action For Spreading Unfounded Misinformation": Bengal Police Warns Media On Sandeshkhali Rape Reports

Tensions grip West Bengal”s Sandeshkhali block following allegations of sexual assault and land seizure, with several women accusing TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his associates. The women protesters demand the arrest of Sheikh and other accused individuals amid growing unrest in the region.

Amidst the turmoil, certain media outlets have reported instances of rape in Sandeshkhali, further exacerbating the situation. However, the West Bengal Police released a clarification refuting these claims and cautioning against the spread of misinformation.

In their statement, the police highlighted that no allegations of rape had been received during the various inquiries conducted by the State Women’s Commission, a 10-member fact-finding team led by DIG CID, and the district police. Additionally, representatives of the National Women’s Commission, following a recent visit to Sandeshkhali, confirmed the absence of rape complaints.

The police reiterated their commitment to thoroughly investigate all allegations and assured that lawful action would be taken accordingly. Furthermore, a stern warning was issued to media outlets regarding the dissemination of baseless misinformation, with the assurance of strict legal consequences for those found guilty of such acts.
