'Inappropriate To View NEP 2020 With A Myopic Vision': Dharmendra Pradhan To CM Stalin

New Delhi: The tussle between Tamil Nadu and the Centre over the National Education Policy (NEP), and language politics is reaching new level. Union Education Minister and BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan in a letter to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday (February 21) stated that it is “inappropriate for the State to view NEP 2020 with a myopic vision” and twist progressive educational reforms into dangers to satiate their political narratives. He further stated that the education policy intends to broaden the horizon, not to narrow them.

Sharing the copy of the letter on X,  Pradhan wrote in the post: “Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi’s govt. is fully committed to promote and popularise the eternal Tamil culture and language globally. I humbly appeal to not politicise education and rise above political differences in the best interest of our students.”

Tamil Nadu and Centre has been loggerheads over the NEP and former has been one of the staunchest critics of the policy. Earlier, Stalin had written to PM Modi expressing strong objections to NEP 2020, arguing that it went against the Tamil Nadu’s interests.

Recently, Stalin has accused Education Minister  of ‘blackmailing’ for not allowing funds until the  NEP and the three-language formula are implemented. CM Stalin shared a post on ‘X’ of Pradhan saying that Tamil Nadu has to come to constitutional terms, and the three-language policy is the rule of law.

Stalin has also asked Pradhan to clear the constitutional provision that mandates the three language policy of English, the respective regional language, and Hindi. Education is the concurrent list of the Constitution, and the union government cannot claim it to be their exclusive domain, the CM added.
