A Karnataka school teacher has been dismissed following a backlash over her alleged derogatory remarks on the Mahabharat, Ramayan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As per the accusation raised by a right-wing organisation, a teacher from St Gerosa English HR Primary School, Mangalore told students that the Mahabharat and the Ramayan were “imaginary”. The group, supported by BJP MLA Vedyas Kamath, also alleged that teacher made comments against Prime Minister Modi.

The teacher referred 2002 Godhra riots and the Bilkis Bano gang-rape case while speaking against Prime Ministeer, the group states. In her complaint, the group accused that the teacher attempting to “induce feelings of hatred in the minds of children.”

The group held a protest on Saturday, and the BJP leader joined it on Monday urging the teacher”s suspension.
“If you are going to support that kind of teacher, what has happened to your moral compass? Why are you keeping that teacher? The Jesus that you worship wishes for peace. Your sisters are asking our Hindu kids to not keep bindis, or wear flowers or anklets. They have said pouring milk on Lord Ram is waste. If someone insults your belief, you won”t keep quiet,” NDTV quotes as Vedyas Kamath is saying.

The parents also stated that the teacher taught the class 7 students that Lord Ram was a “mythical creature”.
The school has dismissed the teacher for the alleged remarks and the Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI) is investigating the case. Meanwhile, no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed in the matter yet.

“St Gerosa School has a history of 60 years and to date, no incident like this has happened. This unfortunate incident has created a temporary mistrust between us and our move will help rebuild this trust with your cooperation and we all work together for the better future of our students,” the school stated in a letter.
