New Delhi: Congress leader Pawan Khera on Friday slammed former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi over her social media post where she accused opposition leaders of their alleged remarks on the Pahalgam terror attack.

Bedi’s post was based on a false claim circulating on social media, which stated that Pakistan had managed to insert a clause in the United Nations’ condemnation resolution for the Pahalgam attack.

The post alleged that Pakistan had achieved this by presenting “tweets and videos of 12 Indian opposition leaders as evidence”, including statements by Congress’s chief spokesperson Pawan Khera, Supriya Shrinate, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and other opposition figures.

Responding to Bedi’s tweet, the Congress leader demanded that she apologise and delete it and threatened her with legal action if she failed to do so.

“I expected better from you. If an educated person like you can fall for fake propaganda without verifying facts, what can we expect from those whose only qualification is a degree in political science?” Khera said in an X tweet.

Following his tweet, Bedi again tweeted acknowledging the false claim. “I have been informed by someone mentioned in the above forward that the contents in the message are factually incorrect. Am happy to hear if it is. It’s a relief. I have requested him to counter the message in all fairness, and tag me too for larger reach,” she said.

The fake post had also claimed that China, which has veto power, had intervened to remove the clause which originally stated, “The Muslim terrorists killed after asking about religion…!”

Fact-checker Mohammed Zubair shared a post comparing Bedi’s tweet and an older tweet which first spread the fake news on May 2. He also shared a photo of the actual press statement issued by the UN on the Pahalgam terror attack.
