Kolkata Doctor Murder: CPI(M) Leader's 6 Questions To Mamata Banerjee

As nationwide protests take over the country demanding justice and swift action in the Kolkata trainee doctor’s rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Communist Party of India (Marxist) West Bengal State Secretary Mohammed Salim raised six key questions to state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Raising serious questions to Banerjee and her state government over its lapses in the Kolkata doctor’s rape-murder case, Salim said that the chief minister “must find the answer if she is interested in # JusticeForRGKar.”

His post said:

“Question 1. Why did RG Kar Hospital administration tell her parents it was a case of suicide?”

“Question 2. Who is this influential doctor from “North Bengal” who was informed about the incident even before the police and the parents?”

Salim referred to how the victim’s family was informed that it was a case of suicide and not murder by the hospital administration, as per reports. The victim’s mother claimed that in the first call the family received by RG Kar, the administration allegedly told them that their daughter was unwell. In the second call, they were informed that the victim had died by suicide.

“Question 3. Despite many reports pointing out this unholy nexus running the health system racket, why has CBI not summoned anyone yet?”

Several claims of the victim being deliberately targeted have come up. Colleagues of the victim claimed that there is a possible drug racket in the victim’s department that she had been trying to expose.

“Question 4. Why were the police administration in a tearing hurry to cremate the body of the victim under the supervision of the local TMC councilor and TMC MLA Nirmal Ghosh?”

Parents of the victim said that the trainee doctor’s body was cremated in a hurry even when there were three other bodies in the crematorium.

“Question 5. Why are police intentionally botching up the investigation and apprehending protestors while culprits run free?”

“Question 6. Is Vineet Goyal, CP of Kolkata Police who “alleged to have intentionally destroyed” the Kamduni investigation being given the charge so that he can repeat his feat.?”

On June 7, 2013, a 20-year-old second year undergrad student from Derozio College was abducted and gangraped by eight men before being murdered in Kolkata’s Kamduni. Her mutilated body, with her private parts bleeding and torn, was found in a field.

During the Kamduni case, Vineet Goyal served as the special inspector general (IG) in the CID which was investigating the case. In October last year, the Calcutta High Court reduced the death sentences of two of the convicts, while another was acquitted of all charges. Many criticised Goyal for ‘botching up the investigation’ in the Kamduni case.

Goyal currently serves as the Calcutta police commissioner. Many, including the counsel who appeared on behalf of the one of the petitioners in the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday, have expressed their apprehension on history repeating itself and the RG Kar rape-murder case ending in a similar fate as the Kamduni case due to Goyal’s involvement.

On August 9, a post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor was brutally raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
