The hilly Kullu district of Northern India”s Himachal Pradesh have been witnessing serious damages, as many as eight buildings completely collapsed, after a land slide hit the area on Thursday.

Two other buildings are partially damaged, reported the ANI.

The state is witnessing heavy rainfall, flash floods, cloudbursts, and land slides from 24 June as the monsoon hit the state. Widespread destruction and deaths are also reported.

The incident took place in the main market area of Anni town in Kullu on Thursday morning, ANI quoted Ashutosh Garg, Deputy Commissioner of Kullu District Administration.

The landslide was already predicted by the authorities since cracks were visible in the properties. People were evacuated on time and no loss of human life occurred.

“There was no human loss in the landslide incident because the people had been evacuated by the authorities on time. The properties had started developing cracks over the past few days and landslide was predicted”, said Mr Garg.

“Evacuate the buildings which are in danger of collapsing”, ordered Himachal Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday.

“Follow all the instructions being issued by the government because the safety of the people is the priority of the state government and all the decisions are being taken keeping in view the safety of the people”, he said on X (formerly Twitter).

The properties that are damaged were worth crores of rupees, but there are no casualties since the area was evacuated a week prior to the incident, ANI quoted Lokender Kumar, MLA in Anni.

The State and central disaster management and rescue forces are already deployed. Earlier on Thursday the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) rescued 51 people who were stranded in cloud burst incidents sites in the Mandi district.

According to ANI, Himachal Pradesh has reported 113 landslides this monsoon season. 224 were died in the monsoon fury and another 117 in rain- accidents. The total economic loss has reached 8014.61 crore since 24 June when monsoon arrived in the state.
