Rain Fury Continues In Himachal, 60 Dead In Three Days

The death toll in rain fury caused landslides and flashfloods in Himachal Pradesh increased to 60 in three days as more than 13 people died in landslides in Summer Hill, Krishna Nagar and Phagli in capital Shimla since August 13.

“Rescue operations are going on in Summer Hill and Krishna Nagar areas and one body has been recovered from Summer Hill,” The Tribue quoted Deputy Commissioner Aditya Negi as saying.


The official said that 13 bodies had been recovered from the Summer Hill site, 5 from the Fagli site, and 2 from the Krishna Nagar site. Ten bodies are still feared buried in the debris of the Shiv temple that collapsed on Monday.

Weather experts have reported more heavy rain alert in Himachal Pradesh till August 19.

Meanwhile Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu conducted an aerial survey of Fatehpur and Indora in Kangra district to assess the extent of the calamity”s impact.

“Witnessed the heartbreaking aftermath of the calamity. The strength and resilience of our people in the face of adversity is truly inspiring. We stand united to restore and uplift our beloved communities and Our government remains committed to providing swift relief and support to the affected areas. Together, we will overcome this challenge and rebuild stronger,” Chief Minister Sukhu wrote on X (formerly X).

The chief minister said while sharing a video of rescued citizens alighting a helicopter that more than 800 people were evacuated from the low-lying areas of Kangra near the Pong Dam, as their villages became inaccessible due to the elevated water level in the dam reservoir.


“Evacuation operation is still on as more people are being evacuated,” he added.
