Internet is outraged at Meehso, an online shopping platform of India for selling T-shirts featuring Lawrence Bishnoi, infamous mob leader who has been hitting headlines for his alleged criminal activities. Responding to the issue, the said it has removed the product from its website. In an official statement released, Meesho said it remains “committed to providing a safe and trusted shopping”.

The platform said it had taken immediate action to deactivate the products and is committed to providing a safe and trusted shopping platform for all our users.

The issue was first raised by an X user named Alishan Jafri.

 

The T-shirts featured Lawrence Bishnoi’s picture with ‘Hero’ and ‘Gangster’ written over it. There were kids T-shirt also.

He wrote, “people are literally selling gangster merchandise…these are just one example of India’s latest online radicalisation”.

Jafri also said that apart from Lawrence, the platform is also selling t-shirts on Durlabh Kashyap.

“At a time when the police and NIA are struggling to stop youths from joining gang crime, social media influencers are making quick money by promoting gang content and glorifying gangsters,” he added.

Social media exploded with comments. One user wrote “So Meesho loves gangsters and promotes them on kids’ apparels. Wow!”.

Another one said “This should be stopped, we can’t encourage the younger generation to think of this gangster as heroes”.
