The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee asked Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra to appear before it on October 31 in relation to the cash-for-query scam raised against her. NDTV reports that the committee agreed the accusations against TMC MP were “very serious.”

The panel on Thursday heard, discussed, and recorded both lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey”s statements concerning the matter. After the conclusion of the meeting, BJP MP Vinod Sonkar, the ethics committee chairman, told the media that they would seek aid from the Home Affairs and IT ministries to delve in detail into the allegation – whether there was any misuse of the parliament login ID and password by Ms Moitra.

“We heard the lawyer and Nishikant Dubey ji. Taking note of the seriousness of the allegations, we have decided to summon Mahua Moitra on Tuesday. She should come and present her side of the matter,” NDTV quotes Mr Sonkar as saying.

Mr Dubey, in his complaint filed to Speaker Om Birla, has mentioned the documents shared by Mr Dehadrai to support his claim against Ms Moitra. The Speaker then referred the matter to the Committee.

In the letter, Jharkhand MP says that Ms Moitra has received bribes and favours for raising questions in the Parliament targeting Adani Group at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani. Mr Hiranandani, in his signed affidavit, reportedly admitted that he had given information to Ms Moitra, and also claimed that she had given him her parliament login and password to post the questions directly.

Ms Moitra dismissed the allegation as “jilted ex”s lies,” referring to Mr Dehadrai, and said that she is ready to face questions from the CBI and Ethics Committee.

The Ethics Committee, the permanent body of the Lok Sabha, consists of 15 members who inspect the moral and ethical conduct of the parliamentarians.
