Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday said that fueldinghis wife Sunetra Pawar against his cousin Supriya Sule was a mistake and he regretted it. Politics should not be allowed to enter homes, Pawar said. He, then clarified that, decision to field his wife against Sule was taken by the NCP parliamentary board. Pawar is currently undertaking a comprehensive Statewide tour ‘Jan Samman Yatra’ ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls.
While speaking to a Marathi news channel Jai Maharashtra on Tuesday, Pawar said: “I love all my sisters. No one should allow politics to enter homes. I made a mistake in fielding Sunetra against my sister. This should not have happened. But the parliamentary board of NCP took the decision which I followed. Now I feel it was wrong.”

When the question raised about the possibility of uniting back with Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule, Ajit Pawar told The Hindu, “I am very much part of Mahayuti but what I mean to say is that getting politics into your homes can only bitter relationships and no one should do that. I will always support my family members within my limited capacity after all we are family, and we should be there for each other.”
The change of attitude in Ajit Pawar who was intensely going for ‘Pawar Vs Pawar’ earlier, especially during the Lok Sabha polls, was interesting.
In July last year, Ajit Pawar along with a number of MLAs split the NCP and joined the Mahayuti government. The Election Commission, later, declared Ajit Pawar-led party as the real NCP.
In the recent Lok Sabha election, Baramati seat in Maharashtra, known as the bastion of ‘Pawar family’, witnessed a high octane battle between Sunethra Pawar and Supriya Sule. The sitting MP and NCP (SP) candidate Sule, daughter of Sharad Pawar, defeated her sister-in-law by a substantial margin of 1,58,000 votes. Sule secured Baramati for the fourth consecutive time. Ajit Pawar faction has not only lost Baramati but also Shirur constituency it contested in Western Maharashtra.
