Multi-Storey Building Collapses Near Delhi University, Many Students Feared Trapped

New Delhi: A multi-storey building called Hostel Daze in South-West Delhi’s Satya Niketan collapsed during basement renovation work on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred at around 1.30 pm. The building collapse trapped an estimated  25-30 students inside.

Rescue teams from Delhi Fire Services, NDRF, police, and others rushed in, pulling out several survivors. There are reportedly several critical cases now in hospitals, while locals dug with bare hands amid the dust and smoke. Satya Niketan is a popular area among college goers. Several PGs, book shops and budget cafes are located in the area.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed a full-scale response on a war footing, with student groups like NSUI aiding efforts. The incident has raised questions linger on building safety in these crowded student areas.

Sharing the news, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke alleged that not a single person from the administration is in sight as the locals are trying to rescue the students with bare hands. “When every minute could save a life, where is the administration? And for how long this will continue to happen?” he asked on X.
