Five Dies As Search Continues For Trapped In Bengaluru Building Collapse; DK Shivakumar Warns "Strict Actions"

The fatalities in the building collapse in Bengaluru on Tuesday evening have risen to five. The multi-storey under-construction building collapsed reportedly due to heavy rain lashed in the city over the past few weeks. Many are still feared trapped under the debris and the efforts to take them out are underway. The deceased were identified as Harman (26), Tripal (35), Mohd Sahil (19), Sathya Raju (25), and Shankar.

A video shared by the news agency IANS showed a horrifying video of the building collapse.  The victims were mostly the workers when the under-construction seven-storey building in the Horamavu Agara area in the eastern part of Bengaluru collapsed.

Five people have sustained injuries while 13 have been rescued so far. According to report by NDTV, there were at least 20 people inside the building when the unfortunate incident took place.

The search operation is going on as the rain continues to hit the area on Wednesday morning. Visiting the collapsed site, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the under-construction building was being built illegally, adding that strict actions will be taken against the culprits.

Shivakumar stated that has has ordered action against the owners of buildings constructed illegally without permission, noting that the first focus should be the rescue efforts as several still believed to be under the debris.

“This incident is a lesson for us. To prevent such incidents from reoccurring in the future, it will be made mandatory to obtain permission for the buildings and a team will be deployed to monitor the buildings under construction,” the deputy chief minister wrote on his X handle.

However, the rescue efforts are continuing in the site and a dog squads have also been deployed to help trace people feared trapped inside the rubble of the building.
