Mumbai: Husband Throws Acid On Wife After She Discovers His Affair

A 34-year-old man attacked his wife in Mumbai by throwing acid at her face after she found out that her husband was having an affair. She had sought divorce from him.

The 27-year-old was at her mother’s home in the Malvani area when the incident occurred. She was rushed to Cooper Hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment for severe burns.

The couple had a love marriage in 2009. However, soon after the marriage, the woman found out that her husband was unemployed, addicted to drugs, and was having an extramarital affair. These issues prompted her to seek divorce and move out of their house.

For the past three months, she has been living with her mother in Malad.

On the morning of September 23, her husband forcibly entered her mother’s home and attacked her with a corrosive substance, severely injuring her.

After the attack, the woman had filed a complaint against her husband.

The police had registered cases against the husband under multiple sections of the Bharitya Nayaya Sanhita (BNS), including 124(2) (Voluntarily causing hurt by use of acid), 311 (Robbery or dacoity with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 333 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint), and 352 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).
