In Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district, a disturbing incident unfolded as a viral video captured a group of Holi revellers harassing a Muslim family who were travelling on a bike. The family included man and two women. The video, which has gone viral since it was shared on social media, depicted the group surrounding the trio on a bike, with the revellers spraying water on the women and forcefully applying colour on their faces.

Despite protests from the victims, as it is seen on the video, the harassment persisted, with buckets of water also being poured on them.

The distressing ordeal came to light after the video circulated widely, prompting swift action from Bijnor police chief Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, who directed local authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly. Subsequent inquiries revealed that the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Dhampur police station.

Following the identification of those involved through the viral video, the police initiated legal proceedings, registering a case under various sections, including those pertaining to wrongful restraint, causing hurt, and assaulting a woman. In response to their investigation, authorities apprehended one individual, identified as Aniruddh, and detained three minors in connection with the incident.

In a video message shared by the Bijnor police, Senior Officer Neeraj Jadaun categorically asserted the importance of respecting others’ boundaries during festive celebrations like Holi. He urged the public to refrain from forcibly applying colours on others and reiterated the commitment of law enforcement to take decisive action against any unlawful behaviour.

“Please don’t apply colours on people forcibly. Police will take action on anyone who breaks the law,” Mr Jadaun said.
