A 25-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh married a 28-year-old police constable on Thursday, just a day after she had accused him of raping her for the second time and threatening to kill her.
The woman had filed a complaint at the Kotwali police station on Thursday morning. She said the police constable, who works in Lucknow had raped her on Wednesday after threatening her to withdraw a previous sexual assault case.
The previous case was registered in 2023 under a law that deals with rape. The case is currently being heard in a court in Mainpuri.

In her complaint, the woman said the police constable had been putting pressure on her to settle the case. She said he came to her house on Wednesday, threatened to kill her, and raped her again. He also damaged her house.
She wrote in her complaint: “A chargesheet was sent to court in Mainpuri and that case is pending in the district and sessions court… The constable is putting pressure on me to compromise in this case. He came to my house on Wednesday and threatened me to withdraw the rape case, or else he would kill me. When I refused, he raped me again and ransacked my house.”

Despite this, the woman married the police constable on Thursday. The wedding took place in a temple in Mainpuri, and several people attended, including the constable’s lawyer.
The police confirmed the wedding on Friday. The officer in charge of the Kotwali police station, HB Singh Bhadauria said a case regarding the previous rape allegation is already being heard in court. He added that the police are not aware if there was any settlement in the matter.
